Cynthia Sullivan Named 2024 District Elementary Teacher of the Year

The ballroom of the Klein Multipurpose Center buzzed with excitement as Ms. Cynthia Sullivan was announced as the District Elementary Teacher of the Year. Cheers filled the room as Ms. Sullivan walked to the stage, greeted by thunderous applause from her peers.

“The minute you walk inside Ms. Cynthia Sullivan’s classroom, you can feel the passion in her teaching.”

This sentiment spoken by fellow Mahaffey teacher Elsida Rodriguez couldn't ring truer for the esteemed recipient of the 2024 Klein ISD District Elementary Teacher of the Year award.

“Being named District Teacher of the Year was profoundly humbling. It validates my journey from Argentina and the incredible support I've had,” Ms. Sullivan said. “It's a dream realized to make a meaningful impact on my bilingual students. I owe immense thanks to my family, colleagues, and community for their unwavering support. They are the true heroes behind this achievement.”

Ms. Sullivan is dedicated to instilling academic excellence in her students, ensuring they are motivated and empowered to succeed. Each day, she challenges them to not only grow academically but also to develop strong character traits that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

"Mrs. Sullivan's authentic passion for teaching, coupled with her unwavering compassion and dedication to her students and their families, are fundamental qualities that distinguish her as an extraordinary educator and leader," Klein ISD Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown said. "I’m so proud to honor her as our 2024 District Elementary Teacher of the Year. Congratulations, Mrs. Sullivan!"

Ms. Sullivan stands out by building a family in her classroom. Her students feel as if she is their biggest cheerleader. It's not uncommon to see her stopping anyone in the hallway just to share in the joy of her students' progress.

“Ms. Sullivan is special because she’s always positive and cheerful with her students,” student Camila said. “She always says, ‘You can do it; you’ll get a good grade.’ She cheers us up and helps us stay positive.”

Mahaffey Principal Charla Wilson wholeheartedly believes that this award is truly deserved, expressing her gratitude to Ms. Sullivan for being the invaluable 'missing piece' of their Scottie Family puzzle.

“Cynthia has been a great addition to our Mahaffey family—the moment we interviewed her, we knew she was the missing piece for our bilingual campus,” Ms. Wilson said. She has fostered a craft for letting students feel like being bilingual is a superpower that makes them special. She commits to helping her students grow academically, as human beings, and as leaders.”

In Ms. Sullivan’s classroom, students gather on the floor each morning to begin their day with affirmations, setting the tone for success and ensuring they are on the way to achieving their goals.

“I was incredibly impressed by her passion for teaching. Since the first day I met her, I knew she was special—a gem among teachers,” Ms. Rodriguez said. “Not only does she inspire her students, but she inspires all the educators in Klein ISD.”

Congratulations to Ms. Cynthia Sullivan on this remarkable achievement! Your unwavering dedication and boundless passion for our students and community within Klein ISD are truly unparalleled and deeply valued. We are incredibly grateful to have you as a part of our Klein Family.
