Mahaffey Elementary Awarded $3,619 for ‘Goals and Sole’ Grant
KLEIN, TEXAS – Mahaffey Elementary has received a Klein ISD Education Foundation (KEF) grant totaling $3,619 for the establishment of a club for fourth and fifth-grade girls.
The club, which aims to foster the girls’ growth in the community through engaging in physical and mental wellness activities, will be planned and implemented by the school counselor and campus library media specialist.
Generously sponsored by Brian and Jenny McGown, the grant will include lunch and engagement in a mental wellness activity. This activity is designed to help them set personal goals and work toward achieving them. At the end of the 12-week sessions, girls will participate in a campus-led fun run to showcase their growth to parents and the school community.
Fourth and fifth-grade girls were chosen as the target group for this grant due to the rising number of girls with low self-esteem in these age groups. This club, with its focus on self-esteem and social skills, can be a beacon of hope for these girls, providing them with the tools they need to be successful in middle school and beyond.
"Many studies prove that physical movement increases attitudes and confidence, which are great indicators of future success," KEF President Bill Lakin said. "In these 12-week supervised sessions, these girls will have the opportunity to strengthen their physical and mental skills."
This spring, the KEF Celebration Express distributed grants totaling $97,611. These grants will enrich the educational experiences of our student, supporting various innovative and engaging projects.
We sincerely thank all our grant sponsors who have made these initiatives possible. Your support plays a pivotal role in enhancing the educational journey of every Klein ISD student.
The Klein ISD Education Foundation accepts grant applications twice a year, encouraging, facilitating, and acknowledging creative projects that drive academic success for our Klein ISD students.
